Egyptian Elegance Night - Hosted by Sophie Mei
Written by Danny Benbow

Middle East comes to Sheffield.

It was all Arabic at The Showroom Cinema last month when Sheffield belly dancer Sophie Mei hosted a themed evening last month. Egyptian Elegance Night attracted 300 guests who enjoyed events from belly dancing, Arabic drumming and street dance, also having the chance to sample Arabic cuisine Baklava in the specially decorated venue.

Here we have a rare bit of welsh talent, unearthed this weekend on Britain's Got Talent.

Jamie Pugh gave 'Bring Him Home' from Les Miserables feeling even though he was quaking in his shoes the whole of his 3 minutes. The plucky welshman earned himself a riotous standing ovation from the audience. Piers Morgan got an unexpected surprise hearing Jamie sing, and Simon Cowel said "you have special special talent" and "people like you are the reason we like to come to Wales. This could be a big moment in your life Jamie - three yes's and a roaring crowd.

Looking forward to hearing you in the semi finals

Hollie Steels the Limelight!

Sailing through to the next round with her performance of 'I Could have Danced All Night'. The delightful little 10 year old from Accrington stunned everyone with her beauiful unquivering voice that had Kelly Brook on her feet. "I just didn't expect that voice could come from such a tiny little thing" she said. "Utterley Brilliant" said Amanda Holden. Yet again another talented singer has the audience on their feet.

It is amazing how much raw talent comes out of the woodwork in the form of youngsters like Hollie, and without shows like Britain's Got Talent we would never get to witness the delights or the shock, surprise and goosebumps when we hear someone truly lovely and a privelege to listen to.

See you in the next round young lady! Can't wait to hear your next performance.

Diversity - Britains Got Talent 2009 - Week 3
Written by Ann Palmer

Diverse Dance Act from a Diverse Group of Streetdancers

Diversity the popular Streetdance group from Essex made up of three sets of brothers, had just two minutes to impress the judges and that they did - with a musical medley including 'chariots of Fire' which brought a chuckle from Ant and Dec in the wings.

The lads did exceptionally well and deserve a place in the line up before HRH the Queen later this year. "Dynamic, Funny, Superb" said Amanda Holden and she is so right!

Discovering Talent in Cardiff and Birmingham
Written by Ann Palmer

Britains Got Talent Auditions Round 2

My heart bleeds for the thousands of youngsters who feel they stand a chance in front of a sometimes punishing and unforgivable onslaught from not only the judges, but the audience too, who boo, whistle and shout "OFF, OFF, OFF".

Youngsters and Adults alike are surely nerve wracked when they set foot on the Britain's Got Talent stage, and must be petrified and desolate when they are booed off. But what parents let their children stand onstage and perform, when they are either inadequately prepared, or audition under the misguided belief that they are good. Sometimes even cocky with it.

Shaheen Jafargholi got the shock of his life when Simon Cowell halted his performance as he began to sing. My heart sank! and the look of devastation on his mothers face was agonising.

Sophie's Career Takes Off Since Britians Got Talent
Written by Ann Palmer

Sophie Mei To Join Bellydance Superstars

Raqs Britannia 2009, Europe’s largest bellydance festival will see 19 year old Sophie Mei amongst the judging panel of the festival’s first ‘Junior Bellydance Competition’ which will take place on Sunday 7 June. Fans of Sophie will be able to join her as she also hosts a bellydance workshop for beginners on Saturday 6 June.

Sophie was invited by Miles Copeland, former manager of The Police and Sting, to join the Bellydance Superstars in Blackpool this summer.

Since beating off stiff competition from over 100,000 hopefuls, and making it throught to the live semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent 2008 with her ‘knockout’ bellydance performance, Sophie has not looked back.

Sophie won the hearts of judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan, who described her as having ‘absolute star quality.’

The popular young lady's live performance of Kiss Kiss was watched by over 10 million viewers and her performance of Temptation has had over seven million hits on YouTube. That was just the beginning of a whirlwind of live performances, music videos and TV appearances.

As testament to her talent, Sophie has been asked to attend Raqs Britannia 2009 in Blackpool’s Winter Gardens

Sophie commented: “It’s an absolute privilege to be judging the competition. I hope we can attract more young people into learning the art of bellydance. I’ll even be teaching some bellydance basics in my ‘Belly Babes’ workshop on the Saturday.
Sophie said “It will be a fun and light-hearted workshop, designed for young beginners who want to discover more about the art of bellydance and performance.  They can learn the basics, from simple hip circles to their first shimmy.  I will also be putting a strong focus on confidence-building techniques.”
