Stephanie Thompson - Miss Dance 2009 Runner Up

Written by Ann Palmer

Congratulations to Miss Stephanie Thompson

Runner up in this Years Miss Dance of Great Britain 2009.

Stephanie Thompson, who is currently in her 2nd year at Phil Winston's Theatreworks in Blackpool, has been dancing with the Hazel Bell School of Dance since the age of 6. As a child she regularly went to watch the event with class members so she knew what to expect when she finally got through to the qualifying rounds for this years competition.

Competition was stiff for the opportunity to win the Miss Dance 2009 title this year, Stephanie danced alongside over 45 dancers from around the UK. She received rapturous applause from the audience which included her family and friends and everyone from her dance class who had travelled all the way from Pudsey to cheer her on and show support.

Tastefully attired in a simple black body-stockined Jazz catsuit decorated with rhinestones designed for the event by Jan Atkins from the Hazel Bell School - the lucky teenager went on to make it through to the semi final and grand final before being selected as runner up to the winner Miss Sophie Turner. Stephanie won £500 as runner-up and will again have the opportunity to qualify for the 2010 event by entering any of the 53 IDTA heats over the next 12months.

I asked Stephanie, who qualified at the Autumn Stage Festival heat earlier this year "Why she entered Miss Dance" she replied "I entered for the experience and the opportunity - it's a huge competition and to even get to the final 50 is a huge achievement".  When asked what her friends thought about her recent win she said "Everyone has been really supportive and excited about it! I am very grateful to everyone."

The talented young lady who loves singing, dancing and the theatre, has set her goal to star in the West End and have a successful career, which I am sure - judging by her performance at Miss Dance in Blackpool recently - many will agree including the judges, that she is certainly stepping in the right direction.

Many young dancers entering the Miss Dance of Great Britain Grand Finals have reached the heights of fame on the West End Stage including Miss Dance of Great Britain 2007 winner Alicia Peacock who went on to star in Queens World-wide hit musical 'We Will Rock You'  by Ben Elton at the Dominion Theatre in London's West End.

Congratulations and Well Done Stephanie we thoroughly enjoyed your performance!
