Ballet Dancing PDF Print E-mail

Ballet Dancing is the most popular dance category in our directory with over 6,000 dance schools in the UK alone.

Ballet classes take place after school and at weekends in most local villages.  In some areas there are 2 to 3 maybe 4 schools within the same town.

Starting Out

Children as young as 3yrs (or younger at the dance teachers discretion) are taking up ballet dancing, competing in dance festivals and winning medals and trophies. To the parents who make time in their busy lives to allow their children to follow hobbies or pursue their talents we thank you. Our children are now lucky to have such a wide variety of dance, music and drama classes available to choose from.

Comfy Clothing

When first attending a ballet class it is advisable that the child wear something loose fitting and comfortable to allow ease of movement with either barefeet, sox or pumps for their feet.  The dance teacher will advise you what is appropriate wear for her classes.  After your child has attended a few times and is comfortable with the teacher, and enjoys the classes,  you can then purchase the class uniform, normally a leotard, skirt, cardigan and a pair of ballet shoes. These items are available either via the dance school, from your local dancewear retailer or via the internet..

Private Lessons

At various stages throughout the class term, depending on the capabillity of your child, she/he will take graded exams. Private lessons are available for children who need a little extra tuition in the run up exams at an extra cost.

Xmas Concerts and Shows

Most dance schools put on shows throughout the term , mainly a xmas concert which the parents can be actively involved in, either making costumes or helping backstage with the children.  These are a good source of fun and excitement for the kids allowing parents and family to see the progress and talents of their children.  I always had a lump in my throat when my own daughter performed at one of these concerts and she was always so excited to be allowed to take part.

Dance Festivals

As the children become more competent dancers they are entered into local dance festivals and compete for medals and trophies.   They have specially designed costumes for the different dances which can be made, bought new or second hand.  Some children have as many as 10 or more dances to perform and it always amazes me how they remember the different steps to each one.

Our Aim

Here at All 4 Dance and Drama it is our aim to gather and network all UK dance, music and drama schools, groups and societies together in one place so that parents and children can source the right information for their category of dance.
