20 South Yorkshire School Children Auditioned for places

11 lucky Apprentices take up studies at Take 2 Academy Theatre

Take 2 Academy Theatre in Birdwell, Barnsley are running two new NCFE award Young Apprenticeship training programmes to run alongside the school curriculum BTEC Performing Arts course

  • NCFE Performance Skills - level two
  • NCFE Technical Theatre - level one 
the courses cover all aspects in performance and theatre skills both front of house, on stage and backstage

20 pupils from 3 South Yorkshire schools were auditioned through a workshop and then interviewed individually, before being split into 4 groups of 5 to improvise a piece to perform in their group, from this 11 hopefuls were randomly selected to go on to train at Academy theatre.

 

The lucky 11 Young Apprentice students are from

Foulstone School, Darfield, Barnsley

Kirkbalk School, Hoyland, Barnsley

who hopes to go on to dance college 

  • Jemma Foster

who hopes to go on to drama college and become an actress

  • Laura Fenton

who hopes to go on to drama college and become a drama teacher, costume designer or make up artist

  • Mark Kidgell

who hopes to go on to drama college and become an actor in theatre or television

  • Rhiannon Sharpe

who hopes to go on to drama college and become a drama teacher 

  • Sam Ferris

Who hopes to become a performer / artistic director 

  • Samantha Land

who hopes to go on to drama college and become a performer/actress 

  • Tanya Robinson   
who hopes to go on to drama college

Young Apprenticeship Course

During the NCFE 2 year course, 'Curtain Call' the name the students chose for their group, are to do 50 work placements the first will be participating in performances and supporting staff within the Academy theatre for the performance of High School Musical this week.

The performance will have a full supporting band and the group will be dressed in their own designer 'Curtain Call' T/shirts.

All 11 students have high hopes and we wish them all the best in their quest for a career in the performing arts sector.
